About this project

Useful numbers for the decisions homeowners actually face.

Homeowner Cost Lab is a prototype for clear, source-aware tools that help people organize home maintenance and replacement decisions.

What this site is today

This early version contains two calculators. They use figures entered by visitors and explain how outputs are produced. It does not publish a verified database of local contractor prices, and it does not claim professional inspection or trade credentials.

What we are building toward

We plan to validate homeowner search needs, then add useful tools and carefully sourced regional data where the underlying evidence supports it. A location label alone is not a meaningful local page.

How we work

  • Explain the calculation in plain language.
  • Identify what is user-provided, sourced, estimated, or unknown.
  • Correct pages when a formula or source changes.
  • Keep tools simple enough that users can check the result themselves.
